Less storage capacity in storage devices

Less storage capacity in storage devices

If you notice well, you will find that no matter how many storage devices you buy until today, no amount of storage is said to be available. It can be seen on any storage device like memory card, pen drive, hard disk etc. And when you ask someone about it, they may not be able to answer your question satisfactorily.

First of all, we need to know the basic concept of storage.

8 bit = 1 Byte
1024 Byte = 1 KiloByte
1024 Kilo Byte = 1 MegaByte
1024 Mega Byte = 1 GigaByte

This is the general formula that we have been reading since childhood. And that’s right. But the storage makers have a further 20 after 1, so calculation occurs during storage. So they don’t have to calculate the next 25 for the benefit of creating storage. As a result, the formula that follows is calculated as follows.

8 bit = 1 Byte
1000 Byte = 1 KiloByte
1000 Kilo Byte = 1 MegaByte
1000 Mega Byte = 1 GigaByte

Now we will know the subject through an example. Suppose you have purchased a 5 GB memory card. Then, as a storage maker, we know how much space there is.
16 Giga Byte = 16,000,000,000 Byte

But storage calculation on our mobile or computer but adheres to the original formula. Because there is no problem during calculation.
So let’s see how much space there is on a 16 GB Memory Card

(16,000,000,000) / (1024 * 1024 * 1024)

The number that will be available after the calculation is – 14.90116119384766. And this number will show your phone or computer as storage of your memory card. Or something more or less than that. Another calculation shows that there are about 70 MB less available in 1 GB. This is the case with all storage devices.
